LIAM THIAGO, is a 6 year old boy who was born with a congenital limb defect, missing the bottom part of his left leg. However, over time he had developed a prominent bone. The fibula on one of the two bones of his leg became overgrown with symptomatic neuroma, meaning it caused him pain every time he would put his prosthesis on. It was late in the afternoon, on clinic day during our August 2024 Medical Campaign when he arrived, and would become our last patient that Saturday. He came in, getting wheeled in by Isaac, and wearing the biggest smile on his face as though saying: “I’m so happy that I will finally be able to walk and play again! Thank you, thank you!” No wonder Jesus tells us to become like little children, to have that childlike faith; for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven indeed. His joy was contagious and so precious to see, despite the obvious limitations and hardships he endured on a daily basis.
Thanks to the skilled hands of our surgeons, Dr. Scheffer and Dr. Lezak, Liam underwent revision amputation surgery. Now, about 3 months after surgery, he is able to bear weight on a prosthesis without any pain, going back to walking, playing and running with his friends. This also brings us a sense of confirmation and joy as we are reminded that we will be able to fabricate prosthesis like his at our Miracle Campus very soon.
With Isaac, our medical coordinator in Pucallpa.
During our November 2024 medical campaign Liam’s mom brought him for a check-up to see our Scalpel doctors, they were able to examine him and confirm he was in fact healing as expected. To those who prayed, served, and supported—thank you! Your faith and generosity are transforming lives, just like Liam’s.
