Prayer for our February Team

Dear Friends and Family,

Greetings from Pucallpa, Peru! We were greeted this morning by a small group of monkeys who were passing through the trees by our house. They were chattering as they went by, and I wondered at how much they are like the squirrels of Minnesota … going about their life … filling up the purpose for which God created them.

Last evening at the gathering for prayer, we looked at a passage from 1 Peter. I was encouraged again by the calling and provision of our God that sets us free to fill up the purpose for which he created us. Because we are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession … we are set free from an enslavement to this world and its rulers to proclaim with our mouths and our lives the excellencies of him who called (us) out of darkness into his marvelous light. (1 Peter 2:9-11)

One way to proclaim his excellency is to call on him as Lord and provider … asking for the help we need daily. We read this morning in Psalm 62:8 Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us. Can I put you to work on behalf of his kingdom here?

Two items for prayer as we enter the weekend and a very full up-coming week: (1) We have a medical team arriving in Pucallpa this Saturday morning. They will be with us all week working surgical wonders in one of our local hospitals. There are many here who would never have the means to receive this kind of medical attention were it not for teams like this one. Pray for the team. Ask the Lord to open the eyes of each team member to see more of him during their time away from normal routines and distractions. Ask for wisdom to be given to the surgeons as they make decisions concerning what they can and cannot do on this trip. Pray for the patients. Ask the Lord to open their hearts and minds to see Jesus in this team and those who gather around them on clinic day (Monday) and on their day of surgery. Ask God to direct their hearts to himself as we pray for them and share truth with them. Pray for Laurie and me as we organize, facilitate, and shepherd the time this team is on the ground here in Pucallpa.

The second item (2) concerns this Sunday. I will be preaching in the church where we attend regularly. Pray that God would be worshiped and that his truth would bring understanding by the power of his Spirit. John 13 will be our text and the example of Jesus our focus.

Thank you for standing with us … we will update you after this team leaves us.

Peace,

Dan & Laurie & Lyndi!
