Recognition for Scalpel At The Cross:

A journal article co-authored by our very own President and Co-founder, Peter A. Cole, MD, board member, Lisa K. Schroder, medical student Michael T. Torchia, and resident Brian W. Hill, MD, was published in the The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery (JBJS) this month.

The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery (JBJS) has been the most valued source of information for orthopaedic surgeons and researchers for over 125 years and is the gold standard in peer-reviewed scientific information in the field.

An excerpt from the article describes the follow-up of patients that Scalpel At The Cross serves: “In the 104 patients, successful wound-healing occurred in 101 (97%) and 100 (96%) had a functional outcome deemed to be good or fair by the in-country physician. The infection rate was 2.9% (three patients), with 97% (fifty-seven of fifty-nine) of fractures united.”

These are amazing results, especially in light of the impoverished conditions in which we function. Each team brings such an incredible level of professionalism and care to the needs of those in Pulcallpa. We are so very grateful for each and every person who plays a vital role in bringing hope and healing in the name of Christ.
