Dear family and friends

Dear family and friends, The 31st of July, our departure date, is fast approaching. God has called us to this new venture for the kingdom, and we are eager to go and begin the work. Initiating new aspects of ministry influence is part of how the Lord has chosen to orient our life.

This Sunday I am preaching at Jubilee for the last time as the associate pastor for this amazing family of believers. Our text is Philippians. Paul’s confidence in God’s continuing work and his view of himself as a servant are very instructive as we head to Peru. God has begun a good work in Peru, and he will continue to pursue the end for which he started it. We are eager to work as his servants to strengthen and fan into flames ongoing faith in the gospel.

We will accompany a small medical team as we head down to Peru in two short weeks. Two surgeons will be going to do a number of very specific operations that have been postponed in the past due to needing the right equipment. Pray as we connect with these patients and their families, the hospital staff, and missionaries. Pray that our lives and words will reflect the faith of the gospel. Like Paul, we long to be full of courage and not ashamed knowing that our interactions will mean fruitful labor for Christ. (Phil. 1:22)

The team will leave Peru on August 7. Laurie, Lyndi, and I will remain to continue the process of moving in and building a framework of relationships to serve the ministry of Scalpel At The Cross for many years to come. Pray as we begin this new season. An apartment needs to become a home. We will be making new friendships. Learning our way around a new city will be essential. Spanish will become our language of communication … well, we will be working on it at least!

Seth & D’Evan head to Dakar, Senegal on July 23 for a year of teaching. Benjamin is looking for an apartment close to Jubilee. Anna and Mitch finish their summer jobs on August 14 and head back to Covenant and Calvin colleges that very weekend. A missionary family from Sweden will move into our home here in Minnesota on August 17. The Lord works his details in answer to prayer… so pray with us that all of these might come together even as we have planned!

A number of you have joined with us financially … thank you. Know that Scalpel has added a new giving site on the web that is much easier to use. Go to the Site  We love you and delight in knowing that many of you pray often for our family. Paul said that he knew that through prayer and the help of the Spirit of Christ, God’s purposes would be fulfilled in his life. We believe that as well. Thank you for partnering with us in this manner.

Peace … Dan, Laurie, Lyndi … and the Porch Clan!
